Most Romantic Gift: Man Gives His Fiancée a Life-Saving Wedding Present
"You gave me life, and now it's my turn to give it back."
The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Delta Bessborough hotel asked people to submit their most romantic Valentine's Day stories in order to win an amazing weekend away. Though the winner of the competition hasn't been announced yet, it should probably be Christian Willenborg, a man who gave his fiancée, his "perfect match," a kidney.
"You gave me life, and now it's my turn to give it back," he captioned this pre-surgery selfie with his wife-to-be Errin. "Life has given each of us our perfect match (yes, against all odds we are a perfect match!)...now here's to our future! Better days ahead, my friend! Love you to the moon and back!" The chances of anyone besides an identical twin or sibling being such a close match are very low.
According to CTV News, Errin was born with one poor-functioning kidney. Her father planned to donate his to her, but was recently diagnosed with kidney cancer and died. As she got sicker and sicker, Willenborg had to do something: "When you see death in a loved one's eyes, you're compelled to act." He proposed, she accepted. They had their surgeries soon after.
Errin is currently in isolation recovering, but is "on the mend every day" thanks to her "perfect gift." I am currently desk weeping quietly, because this story is nuts and true love exists.
