After actor Shah Rukh Khan was detained at the airport in Los Angeles today, the 50-year-old took to Twitter to express his disappointment.

"I fully understand & respect security with the way the world is", but added that "to be detained at US immigration every damn time really really s****."

In another tweet, he wrote:

This is not the first time that the superstar has been detained at a US airport.

In April 2012 too, he was detained at the New York airport for over two hours by immigration officials after arriving from India to address students at Yale University. He was accompanied by Nita Ambani, wife of Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, whose daughter was a student at the university.

While Mrs Ambani and the rest of their group were cleared immediately, the actor was stopped and was given immigration clearance only after about two hours.

"It just was very uncomfortable. To land up somewhere and getting stuck in an airport for 2-3 hours for no reason at all," he said in an interview earlier this year talking about the April 2012 incident.

As a result of his detention, Mr Khan was two hours late for his speech. Addressing students at Yale, he said: "We were detained at the airport as always. For one and a half hours. It was nice. It always happens when I come to America. Whenever I start feeling too arrogant about myself I take a trip to America."

Reacting strongly, the foreign ministry had asked Indian Ambassador to take up the issue with US authorities. Immediately after the incident, the US Customs and Border Protection addressed a letter to India's New York Mission expressing "profound" apologies.

In 2009 also, the actor was stopped at the Newark airport and was released after two hours.
